About the Conference
Dear Friends,
It is a pleasure to invite you to The 2007 GCI Annual All-students Conference and Arts Festival, “GCI 2007 Calabar”, Nigeria scheduled to take place on the 29th November-2nd of December 2007, in Calabar, Nigeria.
Background on the GCI 2007 International Conference and Arts Festival
The conference brings together youths in various higher institutions of learning in Nigeria and Ghana. It will showcase their achievements, challenges and talents.
The conference would provide information exchange, awards and opportunities for young people to interact with professionals from various institutions, companies, agencies etc.
The conference would also be exhibiting over 400 successful youth led projects on the Millennium Development Goals run within Nigerian and Ghanaian schools. It is the first of its kind in Africa.
The festival/conference will provide internship opportunities, contacts with different firms, and companies; school exchange programs, career counselling opportunities by successful business men, and women.
This project will run for at least period of 3months from August 2007.
Theme: Roles, Actions, and Achievements of young people in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The 2007 GCI Conference Sub-themes:
- Youth Reproductive Health and HIV Prevention.
- Violence amongst youth, taking action to create Peace Initiatives.
- Youth helping youth, youth leadership for a solidarity society.
- Youth and Drug abuse.
- Human Rights, Youth Perspectives on Development, Early Marriage and Adolescent Girls.
- Life Skills and Career Building.
- Tools for youth to help in achieving the MDGs, learning to speak MDGs and youth activism.
- Empowering young people through ICT-with ICT based capacity building.
- Report from GCI Chapters within and outside Nigeria
Participants
Over 6,000 GCI members National and International, GCI Advisory council, Board of Directors, partner companies, and top chart Actors and Actresses, Musicians, sponsors, and other participating youths
We invite you to set aside the key dates and begin planning for attendance and participation in this event. In a special way we wish to invite you to submit abstracts, Arts works and theatre/ music performances for consideration if you intend to make a presentation under any of the themes, sub-themes and topics of the Conference.
Lastly, we kindly invite you to support the organizing Committee of this Conference and Arts Festival by disseminating this information as widely as possible within your school, network of individuals and youth organizations that might be interested in attending this Conference.
